Case Study: Amya, Freshman (Varsity Setter)
It all started in 6th grade. At that time, I only did cheer, but my PE teacher, Coach Moore, saw potential in me for volleyball. I had never played before, even though I liked hitting the ball around at recess and during PE. When volleyball tryouts came, both my cheer coach and Coach Moore encouraged me to try out. I was too scared because I kept worrying that I would mess up or that the older girls would laugh at me. Instead of giving up on me, Coach Moore started talking to me about how she saw something in me. She even suggested I try out for club volleyball. I decided to go for it, and when I made the team it gave me the confidence I needed.
The next year, I tried out for school volleyball and made the team. That is when I met her daughters, Ashlyn and Jaden. Both of them played volleyball. Ashlyn even went on to play in college, and they came to practices to help out. Even after the school season ended, they did not stop helping me. Almost every day we worked on drills to get me ready to play at the next level. Anytime I asked to get in extra work after practice, they were all in. Coach Moore even bought me a book about the mental side of being a young athlete, how to handle confidence, and how to deal with challenges. That support and dedication pushed me to grow in ways I never expected. They pushed me hard, sometimes harder than I wanted, but starting with the little things built me up. That effort helped me make varsity as a freshman.
Jaden especially had a big impact on me. She always knew how to make things fun, even when the workouts were tough. She joked around in funny ways, but behind the jokes there was always truth that motivated me. She called me out when I was not giving 100 percent, and even though I did not always like it in the moment, it made me better. Jaden had a way of making hard practices not only challenging but enjoyable. She reminded me that volleyball is about loving the game while also working hard at it. I learned that you can push yourself and still laugh through the process. A lot of her energy rubbed off on me, and I carry that with me every time I play. To this day, on the court I always think about what Jaden would tell me to fix.
Ashlyn was someone I looked up to from the start. She invited me to her college games, and I studied how she played. I still have videos of her matches, and I listened to every piece of advice she gave me. She set the kind of example I wanted to follow, both on and off the court.
Now, even though I have only been playing volleyball for three years, I am still improving every day. To this day, Coach Moore, Ashlyn, and Jaden continue to be there for me, encouraging me, challenging me, and helping me not only as a player but also with my confidence as a person.
Case Study: Abagail, Freshman (Varsity Middle Hitter)
After finding out in the fifth grade that I had the techniques of a future volleyball player, I was asked by Mrs. Moore if I was interested in playing volleyball for Louisiana Inspire, located in Napoleonville. The day my parents said yes, I was thrilled with excitement to start something new.
When school tryouts came in my sixth-grade year, I was not only scared that I would not make the team, but also scared of what other players thought of me. By the end of that season, I was already much better than I had been when I first tried out. Not only did I meet new people, but I also became closer with my coach and her three daughters.
Mrs. Moore and her three daughters were not just there to help with volleyball. They were always there to help me with school or if I ever needed to talk. Every year I tried out, they taught me new techniques and things I had never known before. The Moore's always pushed me to do my best and saw that I was capable of so much.
Coach Moore is funny, loving, and caring, and she loves helping younger kids as if they were her own. If you wanted extra practice, she was there to help. Anytime I needed something, she was there. She always made sure I stayed in the gym even when I was not at school because she knew how important volleyball was to me. She is always finding ways to help kids who want to get better. That is something she loves doing, and she treats every kid like her own.
Jaden helped me with many things throughout my middle school years. She made sure I got to where I am today. She always asked if I wanted to go into the gym to practice because she knew there were things I needed to work on. Through knowing her, I realized that she does not just help because she knows you can get better. She pushes you to be your best and helps you see that there are many things you can succeed at. She always helped with coaching, and it is something she truly enjoys.
Ashlyn is funny, always smiling, and dancing. She made practices more fun. She was either singing or dancing, and anytime I was in the gym she was there helping with Coach Moore and Jaden. She also pushed me to be my best because she knew what I was capable of.
Katelyn was not around as much during my middle school years, but when I needed her, she was there. I went to Daigle Himel Daigle Physical Therapy & Hand Center in Thibodaux, where Katelyn worked, for about six months, and they helped me a lot.
These four amazing coaches pushed me to do things I never thought I could do. They helped me get to where I am today. I could not thank them enough. I love y’all!
Case Study: Kenley, Freshman (Defensive Specialist)
When I first met Coach Jaden, I had just started playing volleyball and she was my very first coach. I had so much to learn, but she helped me push through and never stopped supporting me — even after that first season. She came to my school games, club practices, and tournaments, and invited me into the gym whenever she was training. That is when I also met Coach Moore and Ashlyn, who, along with Jaden, spent countless hours helping me and my teammates because they believed in us.
Coach Jaden especially pushed me to step outside my comfort zone. She’s tough, honest, and always reminds me why I love the game, even on the hard days. I would not be the player I am today without Coach Jaden, Coach Moore, and Ashlyn, and I am grateful they are part of my volleyball family.
